John Henry “Doc” Holliday’s final words, spoken as he lay dying in the Hotel Glenwood in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, were “this is funny”. We’ll never know, of course, exactly what the Wild West legend meant by this. Perhaps he found it ironic that after a life spent tempting death in the gambling dens of the American frontier, it was at last his 15-year long battle with tuberculosis that had killed him.

But while it is certainly true that TB was the ultimate cause of his death, it may have had an accomplice the state of Colorado itself.

Doc was born in Georgia in 1851. His mother died of tuberculosis when he was only 15, and it is likely that he contracted the disease from her. It lay dormant long enough for him to complete his classical education and graduate from Dentistry school before symptoms began to appear.

After his diagnosis he was told he had a few months, perhaps a year, to live. He was 20 years old.

Climate was the only treatment anyone could recommend for tuberculosis in the middle of the 19th century. Seeking drier, hotter weather, Doc went west. Dying or not, he still had to make a living. Good dental hygiene, however, was not a priority for most cowboys, so Doc decided to try his hand at gambling.

Some historians have suggested that Doc deliberately put himself in harms way over the course of his life out of a desire to die a quick, if bloody, death rather than waste away as the result of his disease. Whether or not this is true, he certainly seemed to have the Devil’s luck (good or bad) protecting him. Though he was sickly, scrawny, famously quarrelsome and habitually in a state if of mortal danger, he always managed to survive.

Holliday has passed into legend as one of America’s most fearsome, steely-eyed gunslingers. But though he is credited with the killing of many men, these stories have no historical evidence. In truth, the one and only documented case of Doc killing anybody was at the infamous Gunfight at the OK Corral, when he shot Tom McLaury with a double-barrel shotgun at close range hardly a feat the required a sharpshooter.

Of his numerous escapades with a pistol he displayed abysmal aim, probably as a result of the constant flow of whiskey he consumed to control his cough. He is said to have stabbed several men to death, but this seems unlikely given his frail health and wasted physique; he supposedly carried only about 120 pounds on his 5″10″ frame when he died.

More than a decade of gambling, smoking, drinking and fighting with some of the most dangerous men in America didn’t kill Doc Holliday, but it didn’t slow the progression of his disease, either. As he deteriorated he once again sought out “better” climate.

In Victorian times (and for a long time after) consumptives were encouraged to seek high altitudes. This led Doc to the state of Colorado, the place that eventually killed him.

High altitude sickness is caused when the “thinner” air, where there is less oxygen in the atmosphere, causes the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream to decrease, causing headaches, nausea and a host of other symptoms. For someone like Holliday, who suffered from a severe and advanced lung disease that already interfered with his ability to breath, Colorado’s high altitude was torturous.

With his health worsening daily he decided to seek treatment in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, a town famous for the “healing” waters of its natural hot-springs and vaporous caves.

Visiting the hot-springs was the worst possible course of action for the tubercular Holliday. Sulfur emissions from the mineral springs and geothermal steam baths at Glenwood Springs stripped the few shreds of healthy tissue from his already ravaged lungs.

After a bitter lifetime of gambling with death at the point of a blade or the barrel of a pistol, his diseased body got the better of him. After 2 racking, bedridden months in the winter of 1887 Doc Holliday’s lungs gave out and he died. Tuberculosis had been the loaded gun at his temple for almost half his life, but Colorado had finally pulled the trigger.

Learn to control factors that cause common plant diseases

No matter where your garden is located, you will have to deal with plant diseases. Even if you have had good luck in the past, there will come a day when disease strikes your plants.

Plant diseases can be caused by many factors including plants that have disease when purchased, bugs or weather. Weather conditions many change in your area, becoming hotter, colder, or wetter than is normal for your area. All of these factors can make your plants more susceptible to disease. You cannot control Mother Nature, but you can pick plants that are more disease resistant for your area.

Have you ever heard the old saying, “Talk to your plants and they will be happier and healthier?” Maybe that is because when you are talking to them, you are really looking closer at the plant and paying attention to what is going on. By talking to your plant, you notice if the leaves are getting droopy, turning yellow, have bugs, or are showing signs of disease such as black matter, water spots, or powdery mildew.

Here are a few tips to help you keep your garden disease free:

Try the quarantine program. When purchasing new plants, keep them separated from existing plants (2-3 days) to see if the new plants have bugs or droopy or discolored leaves. Just check out the basic overall health of the plants.

Improve your soil. Bottom line-healthy soil produces good microorganisms and helps keep the bad microorganisms under control.

Rotate plantings. Plant something different in each area every year to keep soil borne diseases from infecting your plants.

Space plants properly. Space plants far enough apart, so that the air can circulate between plants.

Mulch. Mulching helps to keep water and rain from splashing back up on your plants.

Control fungus. If you detect air borne fungus, use Physan 20 immediately.

Control insects. Keep insect population down to help control viruses. Spray-N-Grow offers a variety of products to control insects including Bon-Neem Insecticidal Soap Concentrate and Bonide Rotenone-Pyrethrins.

Keep a good sanitation program going. Pinch off diseased leaves and rake up all leaves, fruits and vegetables that have fallen. Be sure to keep branches and limbs pruned, so they do not touch the ground.

Keep foliage as dry as possible. Water early in the morning, which gives plants a chance to dry out quickly. Allow soil to dry slightly in between watering. Provide good drainage and make sure there is no low spot where all the water stands.

Sanitize. Always be sure after working with infected plants, to wash your hands, and sterilize tools in bleach or Physan  20.

1 – Imate Jasjar drivers to download.
2 – Trados or a Trados compatible CAT Tool
3 – French and Spanish language support (keyboard I can switch to French, Spanish or English as I please)
4 – The best free downloads for Windows Mobile 5
5 – Security software (passwords) for my Word files, Hotmail email, etc. I don’t want anyone to be able to access my hotmail accounts or email accounts and cancelling all set up everytime is a real pain.

Just look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/ it will have everything you need from need audio software like S2P, to a better internet browser than Internet explorer like Opera Mobile. There is a nice finger friendly software called PointUI which is a cool new interface and it has a nice weather app with it. They can also help you with your settings also. Plus if there is a WM6 or WM6.1 upgrade to your phone you can use it and get a newer and faster software.

This British territory in the Caribbean sees seven times more cruise visitors than vacationers coming for a longer-term stay. In addition to shopping, the Cayman Islands are known for attractions such as Sting Ray City, where visitors can swim in the ocean with a school of friendly sting rays.

But no matter how they get there, visitors will bask in one of the hotter destinations in the Caribbean.

The average maximum monthly temperature for the Cayman Islands is 89.5 degrees Fahrenheit and the average monthly low is 70.1 degrees, according to the World Meteorological Organization. The average high is one of the hottest in the Caribbean, while the average low is one of the coolest.

The islands stay hot year round. The average high temperature dips to only 86 degrees in February and stays 90 or above from May through November. The average low temperature drops below 70 degress from December through March.

Over the course of the year, about 4.7 inches of rain falls on the Cayman Islands each month, and they have a higher than average number of rain days at 14 days a month.  But there are definite wet and dry seasons.

January through April have light rainfall at about 1.7 inches per month. Rainfall suddenly shoots up to 5.5 inches in May and keeps increasing until it reaches more than 8 inches a month in September and October. Rain falls an average of 20 days in September and 19 days in October, while it rains fewer than 10 days in January through April.

Comfortable temperatures and moderate rainfall make the Cayman Islands most popular with visitors in March, April and May. Heavy rains in September and October make the islands the least popular during those months.

I just went onto weather.com and got the 10-day forecast for Louisville. Next Tuesday and Wednesday, when several of the top Derby contenders are scheduled to do their final workouts, 40% chance of thundershowers; Thursday, 30% chance of showers, Friday and Saturday, 60% chance of showers.

While I understand that any weather forecast more than 5 days out is more of a wild-@ss guess than a real forecast, there are a couple of low pressure systems out in the west that look to be moving eastward over the next week or so. I think that there really is a good chance that Louisville is going to be getting some rain throughout next week and possibly significant rain on Derby day.

If that’s the way the weather does shake down, how do you see it affecting the race? While there are a couple of horses that have gotten “mud marks” by winning over off tracks, there are several horses on track for the Derby that have no real history over dirt tracks at all, let alone a dirt track that may be something other than fast. Lots of horses that run from off the pace simply do not like getting hit in the face with mud and will “spit out the bit” and quit trying; others lose their action over an off track and just don’t try if they don’t like the feel of the track.

Question by Devilish Angel: I have a serious domestic problem/situation with a rather undesirable neighbor here… Can you give me a hand?
My nasty neighbor, who is being evicted this week for non-payment of the rent (she’s about three months behind with her rent now!) AND causing the water pump to break down AND costing our landlady over 00 in repairs, not to mention illegally tampering with the electricity meter (and eventually smashing it completely with some tool) when her power was out because she didn’t pay her power bill, is a downright low-life, free-loader, leech on society, ghetto type sad and very rude individual with eights kids from God knows how many different men. She heard me talking outside about her & the situation she put herself in, among other things, to my landlady’s estranged husband about an hour ago now and once he left, she came up to my kitchen window, which I had left open due to clement weather, and verbally abused me & threatened me.

She barked, in no uncertain terms:”Before I leave from here, I’m gonna beat yo mother******* ***!!!”

What do you think the best course of action should be?
I should also add that the police had to be called over to the house by our landlady because of what she did to the electricity meter at 11 o’clock at night.

My boyfriend & I have helped her numerous times in the past with all kinds of favors, which is unbelievable considering she was never a friend to us. We even let her use our extension cable through both our windows when she had no power on three different occasions. She also came over many times to beg us for grocery & household items (dish detergent, sugar, pepper, bread, etc.). She borrowed countless DVD’s from us and five of them were never returned and we even drove her places on a few occasions when she didn’t have access to a car.

She even had the audacity to borrow my boyfriend’ cell phone several times and once, she claimed she only needed to make one call and when I eventually checked the calls’ log later, I found out that she in fact made 11 different phone calls!

When I finally saw her true colors, it was too late..
I forgot to mention that my boyfriend and myself have never asked her for ANYTHING!!! We are a self-sufficient couple and we are proud of it.

Some people have enough nerve to behave the way she does, I guess. I bet she’s been doing it her whole life, who knows?

Some people spend their whole life taking advantage of kind & generous folks like us.

She is scum and I strongly believe that she needs to be put behind bars at the earliest opportunity, if only for the fact that she has destroyed property here and cost the landlady over 00 in damages & repairs.

She even had the nerve to beg our landlady to use her security deposit against the rent one month because she couldn’t afford to pay it, once again! Because our landlady is a sweet young lady, she finally agreed, but reluctantly I’m sure!

Why should we move? We have done nothing wrong! And the area is really nice around here too. We are in the countryside, so to speak (outside Houston TX), with a couple of horses running free…

You could always get a restraining order put on her if you are afraid that she will carry out on her threat. Also let as many people that you know what she said, that way if someone sees her in your vicinity, or hears her talking about you, you can be forwarned and contact the authorities.

Helmets

If you want extra protection, wearing a full-face would be your right pick. It also gives added security if you’re wearing contact lenses.

Placing a hook knife on your chest strap is not really a good idea, since it can be easy to lose. Your leg strap is the more preferred choice. To keep your knife sharp, try not to use it for other tasks.

Martinique weather makes the island lush, green and beautiful. But rain also makes some months better for visiting than others.

This is a place for quiet, long-term vacations. Most Caribbean destinations get a combination of visits from cruise ships and “stopover” vacationers. More than five times as many people come to Martinique for a stopover vacation than from cruises.

The southern Caribbean island, a territory of France, is famous for its landscape, beaches, dining and culture. The weather helps make it beautiful, and the weather also impacts the best times to go.

The island has an average high monthly temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the World Meteorological Organization. It has an average low of 73 degrees.

Average temperatures don’t change much each month. The average highs reach 87 degrees in September and drop to 83 degrees in January and February.

Rainfall is far more variable than temperatures. The island receives a total of 76 inches during the year, which is five times higher than the arid Aruba. It also rains an average of 17 days a month.

February through April receive about 3.6 inches of rain and 14 rain days per month. Rainfall spikes in July to eight inches and keeps climbing until it exceeds 10.6 inches in October.

Favorite months to visit Martinique are January through April, July and December, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.  The least favorite months are May, June and September through November.

Despite the popularity of July, it is not an ideal month to visit Martinique because of higher rainfall. Ideal times to go are January through May. June and December have higher rainfall, but not nearly as much as July through November.
